FREETOWN, July 29 (232News) – 147 Sierra Leoneans student ranging from primary, secondary and university were awarded the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship/Grant.
The awarding ceremony of 2021 Chinese Ambassador Scholarship/Grant took place at the Economic and Commercial Office of Chinese Embassy in Freetown on Thursday 22nd July 2021 barely a week before the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Sierra Leone.
The awarding of the Scholarship/Grant was done in the presence of the Chinese Ambassador Hu Zhangliang, Hon. Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Sarjoh Aziz Kamara, together with chairpersons of Sierra Leone – China friendship organizations as well as members from the fourth estate.
Ambassador Hu congratulated the awarded students, encouraged them to continue working hard and wished them great achievements at school and in future career. He also reaffirmed China’s staunch support to the tertiary education and the Free Quality Education initiated by H.E. President Julius Maada Bio.
This year, 22 university students recommended by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education and various tertiary institutions were awarded the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship, while 125 needy students from different primary and secondary schools were selected for the Chinese Ambassador Grant. All the students received the scholarship or grant radiantly, and promised to be grateful, assiduous and contributive to the community and nation.
