FREETOWN – The Archery Association in Sierra Leone on Wednesday 7th October 2020 presented their first batch of Level1 coaches to the executive of the National Olympic Committee. In all 19 participants took part in the online course which involved the president of the association Yayah Koroma and some of the executive members. In presenting the coaches to the NOC executive at the OlympAfrica Center in Godrich Yayah said the association is a newly formed association. He went on that they started the whole process when an expert Marja Eva came from Namibia to introduce the sport. During the introduction of the sports, the president said they cater to get stakeholders for the association. The stakeholders he said involved schools, Universities and other institutions.

Among the 19 participants were also two female participants who received the Level1 coaching certificate. He said the next step they took was to register with the World Archery Federation. In a brief statement the expert of the online course Marja Eva commended the Archery association and the NOC in Sierra Leone for their hard work to see the sport grow. In his statement the NOC President Dr. Patrick Coker admitted he admired the courage and zeal the Archery president have to bring the new sport to this stage. He congratulated and commended the participants for choosing Archery among the lot. He went on that they did well not going in for some of these big sports which have events with high competition in international competitions. Sports like Archery and other smaller sports hasn’t got much competitions like Athletics, Karate, Volleyball and many others which are hard to win gold medals. He though said he was not pessimistic in what he was saying but just that one needed to choose a sport which is not too competitive. He went on to advice the new coaches to make good use of the certificates and train more athletes for the sport.
