FREETOWN – Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone has launched Dr. Kadie A Sesay Girls Secondary School which is the first girls school in Port Loko district.
The President thanked Mercury International, particularly Martin Michael and his team
“There is inherent good in Sierra Leoneans who associate with the leadership vision. Education is the single most enabler that has changed nation,” he noted.
He stated that certain things are above politics and education is one of them, early marriage for girls and negative portrayal of girls.
He said that providing free quality Education for girls is not about politics but about human capital investments.
“The interest of human beings should be above politics. True national development can only be successful when it is owned by all” President Bio states.
He encouraged the children that the person after whom the school was named has been unique in her accomplishment in academia and public service.
In his statement, the Managing Director of Mercury International Martin Michael said that the President promised to build a girl’s school and that Mercury International promised to build schools for the nation which they hoped will contribute to national development.
He expressed hope that the name Kadie SESAY that is given to the school will motivate the children to be like her.
The Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh chaired the occasion while the Minister of Education, Dr. David Sengeh and the Minister of Gender and Children Affairs also made statements.
