FREETOWN – Few months back, the executive of the Sierra Leone Football Association presented over 40 coaches for the various national teams to the Sports Ministry.

During the presentation, the Sports Minister assured the coaches that they will be signing contracts with all the coaches. He went on that the contract will be a performance contract in which if any coach fails to perform, he or she will be fired.

He accepted that it will be the responsibility of the government to pay the appointed coaches every month.

The above payment he said will not be part of their match allowances. He told the coaches that they should forgo all their club jobs and concentrate on their national job.

Onto date, majority of them have tendered their resignation letters to their various clubs. Majority have started work with some preparing for upcoming competitions.

But the only money they have received from the government is the match allowances for those who have teams that have taken part in international competitions.

Responding to why the coaches have still not signed the contract yet, the Sports Minister said the FA is responsible for the delay.

He went on that for long the Director General of National Sports Authority (NSA) Dr. Kenneth Brima has asked the FA to ask the coaches to do medical and present it to the Ministry. According to him, they do want to sign contract with unhealthy coaches as that will tell on their physical fitness.

Besides, if he gets sick during his or her job it will be a problem for the entire team. Most of the appointed coaches have told SALONE TIMES Sports that they are prepared to do the test if that is the stumbling block for their contract.
