MOYAMBA- Descendants of Jama Chiefdom in the Moyamba District are presently preparing to elect a new Paramount Chief to rule the chiefdom.
Sources claimed even though there is no date yet stated for the election, tensions have started to mount among the various sections, towns and communities in the chiefdom.
Most people believe if the situation continues like this there will be chaos in the chiefdom even before the election. The chiefdom has five ruling houses who will be contesting in the upcoming paramount chief election.
In this case, a descendant of the chiefdom Cecilia Mofula base in UK visited her people on the 28th December 2020. Her entourage was welcome with cultural dance with mask devils from the entire chiefdom.
At the Jama court barray she asked her people to maintain peace and unity in the chiefdom as they are all one family. To the Tribal Authorities, she told them to vote wisely and vote somebody that will bring development in the chiefdom
The people in return explained some of the problems the chiefdom is facing presently. Among the problems were good road facility, health care, schools and so many others.
As a chiefdom that believes in Agriculture they appealed to her to cater for Agricultural projects for the chiefdom. In response to them, she promised to do her level best to solve some of the problems within her reach with the others she said it will be the government and they will work together to inform the government about them.
Also during the occasion Cecilia awarded a scholarship to the pupil that got the best WASCE result in the chiefdom which was provided by the Diaspora Kowa Association. The best pupil Esther Gbouma has already got admission at the Njala University College. The scholarship will cover her till the end of her college education.
