FREETOWN- The Gbinti Old Student Association (GOSA) has pledged the sum of five hundred thousand Leones (500,000) to the Roman Catholic (RC) Primary School for the construction of four classroom building and two laptop computers to the Principles of Gbinti Junior and Senior Secondary School (GSS).
The Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu also pledged two hundred bags of cement, ten trips sand and ten trip stones and he already delivered one hundred bags while commending the Muslims for the money and items they donated to a Christian school.
Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu also narrated the history of the Roman Catholic, saying that the reason for taking his time to explain was to avoid any potential conflict among them and the benefit of the future generation.
He however disclosed that Sierra Leone was an epitome for religious tolerance and that both Muslims and Christians had been enjoying that understanding for a very long time which he referred as a great pride.
Dr. Bundu noted that the donation of the various items for the construction of the four classroom blocks Catholic school was for the education of Sierra Leonean children.
According to the Speaker of Parliament, apart from the school, the coming of Fathers to Gbinti was to establish a church particularly at the center of the town but the chiefs and the Imams did not allow them to build a church in the town at the time.
He said that it was the reason for the migration to Karene which automatically converted Bai Siaka’s and Karene to Christianity in Karene Districh, both were prominent personalities.
Other town elders also narrated the history of the RC school and how they, the people of Gbinti love one and how the father of Sheku Umaru Dainkeh, Alhaji Susu Dainkeh who was the Chief Imam of Gbinti became the chairman of the RC Primary School in Gbinti.
Alhaji Abdul Jalloh (A. Jalloh) said the school was not only for the Roman Catholic but for the children of Gbinti while praising the Morleh’s for donating the land to the School and the Gbinti Secondary School.
During the presentation of the laptop, GOSA former president, Rasin Dainkeh said the association was established by former students to give back to the school and society since 1996.
He informed the beneficiaries that today they are comfortable with the level of progress they are making and the feed back they are getting from the community people.
They also commended the School proprietor Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu who is also the Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament and the section chief of Mafonder Section, Pa Alimamy and the two great principals of both the Junior and Senior secondary school.
He thanked the few relatives who have been supporting them to continue the good work they are giving to the society, adding that GOSA has been donating text books, computers and among other things and also organizing holiday classes every year to inspire the students especially those in public examination classes.
GOSA also gives tribute the late Christopher J. Boardken and MH Turay who have served the school for a very long time and that the late Mr. Christopher J. Boardken attained the position of principal before his retirement.
Mr. Dainkeh concluded that GOSA is compelled to support the school to improve education in that part of the country.
According to GOSA acting president Mohamed Bundu commonly called (MBB), they wanted the proprietor of the school to know that they love the school and that they want everything to go perfect with sound results in BECCE and WASSCE by motivating the teachers to show great wiliness.
He noted that the old students are ready to give their full support to the school which is the aim of the association and prompted them to donate the two computers to the two principals.
According to the GOSA, Secretary, Alusine Jah, the two principals thanked the old pupils for the good work and they are not happy for the 2020 WASSCE results which are not yet available.
He expressed hope that they will celebrate when they would be available like the JSS while he encouraged the two principals to continue to do more.
