FREETOWN – Following the good examples of her mother, a young Sierra Leonean Bernadette L. Kamara celebrated her 18th birthday with the less privilege and gave 2 years scholarship to one pupil.

Bernadette L. Kamara gave the 2 years scholarship to a class 5 pupil, Irene Miriam Kamara of Elsie Lisk Nursery and Preparatory School, situated at Steward Street Freetown for her hard work and commitment in her education on Friday 5th February.

Bernadette L. Kamara also visited Help Empower Polio Persons Organization (HEPPO) at Pademba Road where she cut her birthday cake with the kids and celebrated with them by sharing food with them and their parents.

She extended the food distribution to other needy homes in Freetown including the physical challenge at Cotton Tree among others.

Explaining why she decided to do such, Bernadette was quick to say she followed her mother Stella Scott’s good example.

She said during her mother’s birthday she saw her distributing food to the aged across the city.

Bernadette said she learned from that and when it her birthday she thought it fit to do the same.

“Before I take my friends out who are well to do, I said let me consider the less privileged”

Bernadette who is part of the Kiddies Radio Network was so excited interacting with those kids and distributing items to them.

At the Elsie Lisk Nursery and Preparatory School, Bernadette encouraged the other pupils do redouble their effort in their education as she intends to continue giving out scholarship annually to her school.

Irene Miriam Kamara of Elsie Lisk Nursery and Preparatory School after receiving the package thanked Bernadette for considering her. She said the scholarship will ease the burden on her parents.

She promised not to let her down as she has more courage to continue her schooling and to do her best. She expressed thanks and appreciation also to the teachers.

One of the teachers, Mabinty Sesay recalled the days of Bernadette in that school and what she capable of doing. She said it is not a surprise for her to do such now of which she thanked her parents for home training.

Madam Sesay thanked Bernadette for considering her school and also encouraged other pupils to do their best so that they can have such opportunity which Bernadette is giving.

Help Empower Polio Persons Organization (HEPPO) Chairman Ishmael K. Gborie thanked Bernadette for celebrating with them. He said such things hardly come by but the kindness she demonstrated was a very lovely one.

Bernadette was prayed for and the birthday song was sang by the kids as the merriment continues.
