FREETOWN – Members of Parliament last Thursday February 4th 2021 ratified US$ 72.8 M loan agreement for four district in the country-Bo, Moyamba, Pujehun and Karene districts.
Presenting the bill to Members of Parliament, the Deputy Minister of Finance Dr. Patricia Lavarley said this agreement will help to strengthen the health sector in the country especially the maternal neonatal and child health projects and that it will target women and children in these districts.
That it will also strengthen the free health care system for which they are going to construct hospitals in three of the four districts and also rehabilitate the Bo government hospital for fistula center.
Dr. Lavarley said this project is been funded by the Islamic Development Bank, World Bank and the government of Sierra Leone and that it will create employment for health workers.
Hon Moses Baimba Jorkie Chairman health committee said this kind of agreement is important for this country because there was a time when he went with the medical supply agency together with ministry to distribute the free health care drugs in these districts, the people are really suffering.
That the rehabilitation of Fistula of the Bo government hospital is laudable venture.
Hon Neneh Lebbie said women are vulnerable so the agreement is a good one and that when one looks at the agreement, one will notice that government is going to spend little.
Hon Catherine Zainab Tarawally said that 20% of women are single parent, so she is happy for this agreement especially for the rural women who will enjoy from this project.
Hon Chernor Bah supported the agreement. Hon Bashiru Silikie said this agreement is good especially for the women.
