FREETOWN, May 19, (232News) – Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone in a very tough interview in one of the global media platforms has said that corruption is no longer fashionable in Sierra Leone.
“Corruption was endemic in this country. It was fashionable and it was a way of life. What I have done is to make it difficult and non-fashionable,” the President stated.
That through the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) his Government has recovered huge amount of stollens moneys.
That when his government took over the global rating on control of corruption was about 47% but that today they are scoring 80%.
When asked about the allegation of corruption bothering the Office of the First Lady and the former Chief Minister, Professor David Francis, President responded, “it is easy to accuse or make allegation on any member of my family or to say that the government is corrupt, whenever there is allegation of corruption, the Anti-Corruption is free to investigate and prosecute.”
He continued that if indeed his wife and the Chief Minister are proven as corrupt, there are prescriptions by the law-if proven by the court, they either pay for it or there are different forms of punishment.
When asked about appointing a Finance Minister who has been accused of a long-standing corruption, the President stated that the new Finance Minister has gone through a very long legal process to prove that he is not corrupt.
