FREETOWN, June 24 (232News) – Anointed Divine Center for Vulnerable Children, an orphanage home that caters for street orphans and vulnerable children is appealing for help to support the dozens of children.
The Country Manager of the home, Mohamed S. Kallon said most of the children are tthose of disabled parents; they have been used for begging in the streets of Freetown.
He said the home was supported by the Chief Executive Officer Rev. Dr. Emil Amara who developed the initiative to help children in such situation since the home was opened in 2013 but due to age she could not continue the support.
Kallon expressed worry because they could not undertake any activity from the lined-up programs they developed.
“Many times we want to do programs, plan activities but we are limited because of funding to implement them.”
He said the home has accommodation to house 50 orphans and children but due to lack of funding they only have 16 beneficiaries.
“What makes us very worrisome is that we have signed a service level agreement with the Ministry of Gender and Children Affairs. There are expectations on the things we said we will do as promised to do with the government which we did not do.”
He said for the attention for development partners they are open to partnership for them to continue the dream of Doctor Amara but they are constrain with funding.
Kallon said the SLA they signed with the government has to be implemented but they have lost many staff due to lack of funds and the children are in dire need of help.
“This is a vulnerable community that needs help. We are limited by funds we don’t want to return the children to the place we met them or for them not to continue schooling.”
All the children in that home are attending different schools in Freetown starting from classes 3 to Junior Secondary School 2.
As Kallon said they are open for partnership and seeking donor supports the children appeal to non-governmental organisations, donor and the government to support the good initiative of the founder by coming to their aid.
They said they don’t want to drop out of school, they need food and clothing among other things.
A similar call was made by the Operation Manager, Chima Amara.
