Flagbearer aspirant of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, has urged party members and supporters to maintain peace, unity, and respect as the party moves through its internal electoral process.

In a statement issued by his communications team, Dr. Bangura appealed to party stakeholders to conduct the contest in a manner that strengthens the party rather than deepens divisions among its members.

He stressed that internal elections should be viewed as a democratic process meant to promote unity and reinforce mutual respect among members who share the same political goals.

While acknowledging that debate and competition are natural in politics, Dr. Bangura cautioned supporters against turning disagreements into hostility.

The statement expressed concern over what it described as increasingly heated exchanges among supporters of different aspirants, particularly on social media and within party discussions. According to the statement, some of these exchanges have involved personal attacks and remarks directed at fellow party members.

Dr. Bangura said such behaviour does not reflect the values the APC stands for.

He therefore called on party members to avoid insults, provocation, and confrontational conduct as the internal contest continues.

“We urge all supporters and well-wishers to refrain from attacking or provoking fellow party members, whether in person, at party meetings, or on social media,” the statement said. “Let us remain calm and uphold the principles of peace, discipline, and mutual respect throughout this process.”

Dr. Bangura also reminded members that despite the ongoing contest, they remain part of one political family with a shared responsibility to serve the people of Sierra Leone.

He encouraged supporters to promote their preferred candidates through ideas, policy discussions, and constructive engagement rather than through division or hostility.

“The strength of our party lies in our ability to compete respectfully and come out of the process united,” the statement added.

Dr. Bangura reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful, transparent, and credible internal election, expressing confidence that the process would ultimately strengthen the party.

He concluded by thanking party members for their continued dedication to unity and stability within the APC during the ongoing electoral period, while reiterating his call for renewed leadership and fresh ideas within the party.
