FREETOWN, Aug 25 (SALONE TIMES) –Sorrow engulfed the national female Cricket team, when news broke that the government hasn’t got enough money to support them for the ICC Women T20 World Cup qualifying tournament in Botswana next month.

The above news hampered the determination of the women for the tournament with the coaches and the board members wondering what to do at that short time to their departure.

But on Monday, the Directors of the National Sports Authority called the board Members of the Cricket Association to an emergency meeting at the NSA Head office in Freetown.

In the meeting, the Director of Tournaments Steven Kelfala told the board members that they are financially constrained at the moment and they have several sporting activities ahead which will involve Millions of Leones.

This, he said was the reason why they decided to leave out the female team and support the male team instead. But he said after thinking about the laurels they have won for the country and the constrains they have undergone during their trainings they have again decided to squeeze out of the little they have to Support the Ladies.

He assured the board members that government will do more to Cricket especially to the women when enough cash is available in their account.

The outcome of the meeting brought back joy to the female team camp. On behalf of the team, the captain Linda Bull said they are thankful to NSA and assured the nation that by God’s grace, they will do their level best to qualify Sierra Leone for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

According to the board members, the money government will be giving will now be used to give allowance to the players and officials and also for other purposes like COVID test at the Botswana airport, first aid kit for the team and many more.
