FREETOWN, Aug 25 (SALONE TIMES) –  Sierra Leone for the first time will be represented by two qualified athletes in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in Japan.

The two athletes are Joan Jackson representing Sierra Leone in the female Javelin throw and Sorie Kargbo for the Men’s long jump.

The NOC President Dr. Patrick Coker in his message to them told them to be like Ambassadors while in Japan.

He said an athlete should put up good behavior and give his/her all for the country in such event. He thanked Chef De Mission Unisa Deen Kargbo who also acted as the team leader and who has been in Japan before the arrival of the team to put all mechanisms in place.

The team arrived few days before the opening ceremony on the 24th September 2021. With this, Dr. Coker said he believes they must have acclimatized with the weather in Japan.

He went on that had it not been for the COVID restriction, he would have addressed them in the village. The team leader Unisa Deen Kargbo assured Sierra Leoneans that the athletes are doing well in their various training workouts and are all set for their events.

Unisa said since the delegation arrive in Japan none of them has been tested positive of the COVID -19 virus. Beside the test, he said none of the delegation members has been reported for bad conduct in and out of the village. On the 24th of September Sierra Leone will join different nations to be part of the opening ceremony.
