FREETOWN, Sep 6 (SALONE TIMES) – After an interview process for both local and international applicants for the job of the Chief Executive Officer, the Sierra Leone Cricket has appointed Philip Amara as the new CEO.
In the process, 12 applied for the job of which 9 were foreigners and three were Sierra Leoneans. 8 were shortlisted after the first interview online and was also shortlisted to 3.
The three were interviewed by representatives from ICC and the Cricket Board members online. At the end of the whole process, both parties according to source agreed to appoint Philip Amara to be the new CEO.
According to the Development Officer Emmanuel Pessima among them some of the foreign applicants were equally qualified like Philip but say the salaries they were requesting was too much for the association to pay.
According to the appointment letter Philip was supposed to start work on the 3rd of this month but because of illness and other necessary arrangement, he will now start work this week. Philip according to his appointment letter will be doing full time employment. He will be reporting to the Chairman and the Board of Directors of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association.
His duty hours will include out of hours work including domestic travel on a regular basis. His office will be at the SLCA Secretariat at the Kingtom Cricket Oval, Kingtom in Freetown. Philip, a complete Sports philanthropist owns a division1 football club, U-15 football club and a male Cricket Club.
Philip is also the Chairman for the Sierra Leone Sports Committee. In this case, most Cricket fans and players believe the employment of Philip will help cement the relationship between the Police Force and the Cricket association.
This, they said will let the development of the Oval become easy as both parties use the same field to play football and Cricket. In another development Foday Kanyako was also appointed as the Cricket Development Officer.
