FREETOWN, Sep. 6 (232News) – The government of the People’s Republic of China has issued 112 scholarships to Sierra Leonean students to study in China starting this year 2021.
The 112 Sierra Leonean applicants are successfully admitted by various prominent Chinese universities under different Chinese Government Scholarship Programs. The awarded students will pursue their Bachelors, Masters and PhDs in programs ranging from public administration, education, and politics to clinical medicine, computer science and engineering on a fully funded scholarship.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, all the newly enrolled students will stay in Sierra Leone and take online courses provided by the universities at the current stage. While receiving the admission letter at the Chinese Embassy in Freetown.
The scholarship recipients thanked the Chinese government for giving them the valuable opportunities to study in top Chinese Universities, and said they would work hard in both online and offline courses with the aim of using what is learnt to contribute to the development of Sierra Leone.
In 1976, the Chinese government first awarded three scholarships to three Sierra Leonean students and from that time to date, China has sponsored over 1,100 Sierra Leonean students to further their education in China, through scholarship and various training programmes.
The Chinese government has been unwaveringly supporting the education and human capital development of Sierra Leone in a practical and effective way.
