FREETOWN, Jan. 27 (232news.com) – Motherhood Health Care a unique organization devoted to saving lives of women have landed a brand new mobile health clinic in the country a project that will be implemented in Kailahun District

The aim of the mobile clinic is to improve access to maternal healthcare service for women Sierra Leone.

The mobile clinic, a mini bus fully equipped to perform medical session was showed to the media on Monday 27 December 2021 during a press briefing at the SLAJ Headquarters, Campbell street in Freetown.

Briefing a cross section of the media, the CEO and Founder, Motherhood Health Care, Mrs. Kumba F. Sagba James explained the difficulties women go through during child bearing in rural communities.

This she said is as a result of lack of access in poor rural communities.

Madam James said news of pregnancy should be a time of joy and celebration but for women in Sierra Leone it is a time of fear.

“Pregnancy is almost a death sentence and it is the leading cause of death for women of child bearing age. Women dies because they have little or no access to adequate health care. Some die they bleed uncontrollably, or high blood pressure and there are no drug to help, she said”.

She said every minute of every day a woman dies of pregnancy related issues and that maternal death are most times recorded in sub Saharan Africa.

This according to Madam James is the difference between Sub-Saharan Africa and the west.

“Sierra Leone is ranked among one of the worse places for a pregnant woman. Women are dying because of different issues. When a Women in rural community give birth and  start bleeding she need proper medical procedure and this could only be done in a hospital with the right equipment, she said”.

The CEO and Founder, Motherhood Health Care noted that obstructive labour is another cause. Women die most of this time from these cause especially teenage mothers because the pelvic area is not ready for such.

She also noted that unhygienic birth place is another challenge and this must change.

Madam James noted that poverty, FGM are also other causes couple with fistula.

“This is the more reason why Motherhood Health Care was born.

She said Sierra Leone has done great in the area of health service delivery but more needed to be done

Motherhood Health Care vision is a world where every woman has a right to equitable and we’ll resources services, information, condition and facilities that protects and promote their reproductive and maternal health.

The organization provides post-natal care and educates community women about the importance of visit health facilities when they are pregnant.
