FREETOWN, Feb. 24 (232news.com) – The Wilberforce Development Association (WDA) on the 15 February 2022, donated scholarships to outstanding pupils in the National Primary Schools Examination (NPSE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at the Wilberforce Village from the Wilberforce Municipal Primary and Secondary Schools.

WDA Secretary General, Peter Taplima Mansaray, in his statement said, the scholarship is part of the promised made by the Association that every year proceeds from the ‘Marriage man vs Palampo’ carnival they will give back to the community as cooperate social responsibility.

He disclosed that four pupils who came first in 2021 public exams benefited from the scholarship.

The Secretary General encouraged other pupils to concentrate on their school work and promised them that if they do well in the upcoming exams, they will benefit from the scholarship scheme as well.

He gave a background of WDA and the developments the they have undertaken over the past years such as rehabilitation and painting of the Wilberforce Municipal School, the provision of street lights in that community and the building of a laboratory in the Health centre among others.

He further stated that the Association plans for 2022 is to install four street taps to ease the tension of water crisis within the community, improve the street light system and scholarship for pupils within the Wilberforce Village and Municipal Primary and Secondary Schools.

The Principal of Wilberforce Municipal Junior Secondary School, Mrs Sattu J. Samba expressed thanks and appreciation to the Wilberforce Development Association for serving as a motivation to the present pupils of the school. 

She further said, she has been in that community for almost ten years and this type of gesture has never reach them.

She encouraged the pupils to concentrate on their school work and those taking public exams this year will also benefits from such a good gesture from the Association.

Her special thanks goes to the chairlady of the association, Mrs Nancy Toure and said what man has done woman can do more.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary’s, Saidu Conteh encouraged his colleagues to work hard so that they too will benefit from the Association next year. He expressed thanks to the Association on behalf of all the beneficiary’s and the school.

The beneficiaries are as follows: Alice Ngebai, Fatmata Sheriff, Saidu Conteh and Rebecca Conteh all from the Wilberforce Primary and Secondary School respectively.

Bags, books, pens, pencils, mathematical sets and cash donations of Le 500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Leones) each formed part of the package given to the pupils.
