FREETOWN, Apr. 26 (232news.com) – The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Members of Parliament for Constituency 120, Hon. Hindolo Tennison Sandi last Saturday handed over cement and sand to the people of Hooke Street, Television Pole, Kissy in Freetown road work project.
Hon. Sandi explained the reason for the donation of the item that cost him millions of Leones and cash money for logistics.
He said the aim for his intervention was not only the importance of the road but cushion the sufferings of his constituents and the commitment of young people and other community people in their engagement.
He said before that engagement, the community people had already contributed some amount of money for the work.
The SLPP MP cited the deplorable condition of the road started from the main Black Hall road to Up Water Community around Television Pole and that a lot of people sometimes fell and injure.
According to Hon. Hindolo Tennison Sandi, the cement and sand cost him millions of Leones.
He explained that the entire project was estimated at about Le 300M (300 million Leones).
He said the project would not only transform the lives of the people but would also connect the various communities for easy access.
He noted that the people have been crying for that as one of their felt needs though there were other challenges of basic Communities and that if they were able to address the road problem others would definitely follow.
He implored the community to take ownership of the work as he was not doing it for him but the women and vulnerable children, whilst thanking the youth for their commitment.
The Back Street road construction is also ongoing to easy their movement.
One of the youths, Abdul Amin Kamara thanked the MP for his timely intervention, adding that everything left with them and community stakeholders to do the needful.
He also explained how it was all started that prompted them to approach their MP after the idea was brought by one of their colleagues, Alpha Mansaray.
Mr. Kamara revealed that the first amount of money provided by the MP went to the wrong hands which delay the work, saying that Up Water community was difficult to access especially during the rains.
According to him, they are now planning to engage stakeholders to contribute to the road work as more materials is required measures to protect the road when they would have finished.
According to Mrs. Emma A. Langley happy for the work and commend the honorable.
She said she had fallen twice in that road and sustained serious injuries that delayed her activities for a long time.
She noted that since the starting of the road she was always there to make her own contributions.
The Kissy Primary Municipal School deputy Head Teacher called on other community women to take ownership by coming together as she seen the MP’s contribution as a miracle.
