FREETOWN, May 19 (SALONE TIMES) –The Managing Director of Rokel Commercial Bank Dr. Walton Ekundayo Gilpin engaged members of the National Scrabble Association on Monday 9th May, 2022 at the Bank Headquarters in Freetown.
At the meeting, the representatives of the above Association explained the challenges they are facing to represent Sierra Leone in a regional Scrabble tournament in Ghana. In this case they appealed to the Bank to support them for the Maiden West Africa Scrabble championship which will be held in Accra, Ghana on May 16-19 2022.
Dr Gilpin assured the Association that his institution will squeeze to support them with 3 return Air tickets and that the Bank will also pay the Country’s Registration fee of $ 200 to take Part in the Championship.
In his statement Christian Asgill, the President of the National Scrabble Association of Sierra Leone (NSASL) remarked that he was very pleased with the bank’s intervention. According to him the Association needed their help at this crucial time, especially when they were the first institution to answer to their call for help since they started the preparation for the Championship in Ghana. He told the Bank that though they needed more than what they have received they were now almost on the course to represent Sierra Leone in Ghana. He went on that with the little time they have they will again go and knock at other doors for help. The Scrabble president called on other business houses and individuals to come to their aid. He assured Sierra Leoneans that despite constrains they were undergoing they will sure fly the country’s flag high and return with laurels. The Maiden tournament will start today and end on Thursday 19th MAY 2022.
