Sara and the President of Sierra Leone Boxing Association

Sierra Leone’s Canada based female boxer Sara Haghight-Joo last Saturday 17 September won gold medal plus $10, 000 cash prize in the AFBC boxing championship in Maputo.

Sara was crowned as the champion of the female 52-54 kg weight category after defeating Abdelkadar Hedjala Fatma Zohra in the final bout of the above category.

The victory led Sara to be the strongest 52-54 kg weight category female in Africa. According to the judges score card Sara won the final fight by unanimous decision there by automatically becoming the current Africa champion.

Beside been the champion of the above weight category, Sara was also announced as the best boxer for both male and female in the competition.

Few months back, Sara was disqualified from competing in the past Birmingham Commonwealth Games due to injury.

In this case, she apologized to her people for not taking part in the past Games. Notwithstanding, Sara has promised that she will deliver more for Sierra Leone in upcoming competitions. Sara won her first gold for Sierra Leone in the past Zone2 competition that was hosted in Sierra Leone few months before the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Sara has also called on the government to invest in Boxing and other sports so that the country’s flag will continue to fly higher than expected in continental and world boxing platforms.
