NASSIT DG Presenting prizes to the winners

The Sierra Leone Grammar School (SLGS) was announced winner of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust, (NASSIT) Inter Secondary Schools Quiz Competition at the Freetown City Council Auditorium, Freetown on Thursday 10th November 2022.

SLGS scored 36 points during the final stage of the competition followed by Muraido Secondary School with 2nd position scoring 30 points and the 3rd position goes to Christ the King College (CKC), followed by the Annie Walsh Memorial Secondary School with 4th position. Kenema Secondary School came 5th while Magburaka Boys Secondary School took the 6th position. 

The competition was part of the 20th anniversary celebration of NASSIT since it was launched in April 2001. Several lined-up activities have taken place including a member’s conference in October.

In his remarks during the opening ceremony, the Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Basic, Senior Secondary School, ( MBSSE) Madam Mamusu Massaquoi, said every foundation and every institution should found a ground in which they should include Education.

She thanked the Director General of NASSIT and the planning committee for considering the young generation.

She further stated that they were looking forward to the winners and wished to hear about the exciting peace and remorse that will take them to places as she wished them best of luck. 

The Director General of NASSIT, Mohamed Fuaad Dabo, under scored that NASSIT was established under the Government of the late President Ahmed Tejan Kabba, of blessed memory, and now NASSIT is 20 years in operations.

He noted that the scheme is a statutory public Trust, charged with the responsibility of administering Sierra Leone National Pension Scheme.

He DG went on to say that ACT No 5 of 2001 gave them the power to provide attractive retirement and other benefits to meet the contingency needs of workers and their dependents. He added that the Act also makes provision for voluntary membership for those that are in the national sector and the self-employed.

According to the NASSIT DG the quiz competition was specifically drafted in the anniversary program of activities with the primary motive of gaining the knowledge of their potential members, pupils, students, on the operations of the Trust of 20 years down the line.

He thanked all the schools they invited from the various regions and also congratulated the winners of the various regions for making it to the finals. 

The NASSIT DG also used the opportunity to distribute prizes to the winners:  the sum of 20 thousand new Leones (20 million Leones old Leones) with a trophy was presented to the Sierra Leone Grammar School, Muraido Secondary School received the sum of NLe 10 thousand (Le 10 million old Leones) and Christ the King College received the sum of NLe 5 thousand.

The DG disclosed that the winners will get 2 return air tickets to visit NASSIT office site in The Gambia while the runners up will spend a weekend at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown.

The question master was Donald Theo Harding, Chairman, Guild of Newspapers Editors and also the Managing Editor of SALONE TIMES Newspaper alongside with his team.

Certificates and other prizes were also distributed to participants.
