On Saturday, December 10th, 2022, the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, H.E Dr. Julius Maada Bio engaged the media on the visit of his colleague and “brother” H.E Huge Gottfried Geoingos President of the Republic of Namibia and his wife in the country.
Speaking to members of the press at the Presidential Lodge Hill Station, President Bio started by formally welcoming the visiting President H.E Geoingos and his wife H.E Monica Geoingos to Sierra Leone.
President Bio stated that Namibia and Sierra Leone have a strong tie that the country has not used in the past.
He said that during the time of struggle, Sierra Leone has hosted loads of Namibians who are today in position of trust in that country, noting that although Sierra Leone has not explored that link, it is very important in the relationship between Sierra Leone and Namibia.
President Bio went on to inform the press that Namibia is quite strong when it comes to mining, stating the Sierra Leone mining sector has a lot to learn and to share between the two countries.
President Bio also threw light on the Namibian Fishery sector, which he said has been economic progress in that country, pointing out that the visit of President Geoingos to Sierra Leone is to reconnect the two countries on their bilateral ties thus he appreciates the visit of the Namibian President and his wife to the Country.
Making his statement, the visiting President, H.E Dr. Geoingos expressed his appreciation to President Bio and the Government of Sierra Leone for the kind invitation and thanked the people of Sierra Leone for their warm reception towards him and his delegation in a typical African-way.
H.E Dr. Geoingos also went on to note that he is grateful to President Bio for reaching out to him and to reignite the historical background between the two countries.
Giving his testimony, the Namibian President, H.E Geoingos said he has visited Sierra Leone in the past and that Sierra Leone has accommodated their citizens who ended up building families here.
H.E Dr. Geoingos explained that since President Bio spoke about the Namibian mining sector, both countries would be helping each other on advisory efforts to improve that sector.
He also noted that as President Bio said, “this is the time to reconnect and address the issue he referred to” said H.E Dr. Geoingos.
H.E Geoingos thanked members of the media and all protocols who were at the press briefing and noted that he will be inviting President Bio to Namibia which he believes will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
