Salim Sillah, Director to the Chief Executive Officer has informed members of parliament of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Mines and Mineral Resources that the government will commission their plant machine which cost US$ 230M in March.

He made this statement last Thursday January 26th 2023 at Administrative Conference Room Parliament Building Tower hill, when the Committee on Mines and Mineral Resources summoned Leone Rock Metal Group/Kingho Mining to update the committee about their activities in the country.

The Chairman of the committee Hon Emerson Lamina stated that during the first State Opening of His Excellency, he (the President) said he would make the country open to investment and that within four years there is huge turnaround in the mining sector.

He noted that about 70% of export is being done by the mining sector, requesting information on Leone Rock Metal Group/Kingho Mining.

According to him, Leone Rock Metal Group was established in 2010 under Kingho investment and that they have four large scale mining and that they have been operating in the North and South of Tonkolili district.

He said that they have invested US$4.2M since the Tonkolili port was handed over to them in March 2021

Director Sillah further stated that in 2022 they produced 4.6M tons of dusting, they exported US$ 5.2M tons of DHO’S while they have US$ 5.789 M as financial investment.

He highlighted that Sierra Leoneans are benefiting a lot from Leone Rock Metal Group as they have employed 342 males and 212 females.

He noted that have contribute Le 5.6B as community development, revealing that they are doing mining in different phases wherein government will have to make US$ 13.2 M in two years’ time and that they would be doing 15M tons for which they would be paying US$ 20M annually.

Hon Sorieba Alhaji Turay of Constituency 051 Tonkolili said that since Kingho arrived in this country in 2009, they have been helping the communities where they operate, urging them to continue the good work.

Hon Alex Rogers asked if notification of exploration was not given to Leone Rock Metal Group by the Attorney General.

Hon Rosemarie Bangura said Leone Rock Metal should look at the merit of accommodating other players.

Hon Lamina advised them to put all documents in place and avoid press war.
