Sierra Leone preparation for the ICC U-19 Men’s World Cup division 1 qualifier team

The Sierra Leone Cricket Association technical team has invited 26 players for high-performance training in preparation for the ICC U-19 Men’s World Cup division 1 qualifier.

The above tournament is slated to take place in Tanzania July 23-31 2023. Last year the Sierra Leone U-19 national team took part in the division 2 qualifier in Nigeria and came third winning bronze medals and the third place trophy which qualified them to take part in the upcoming division 1 tournament in Tanzania this year.

In the division 1 competition, Sierra Leone will compete with five other African countries in the regional qualification for one qualifier.

In Tanzania Sierra Leone will be battling with Nigeria, Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda for one space   The five regional qualifiers will battle with 11 best full members for the 2024 final stage U-19 Men’s World Cup in West Indies.

The Africa division 1 champion will join the other regional champions to battle with South Africa, England, India, Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Ireland, West Indies and Pakistan for the U-19 Men’s World Cup.

The selected 26 players will commence high-performance training soon with the South African coach Kenneth Masinga to be assisted by Alie John Kamara and other local coaches in Sierra Leone.

According to the association, if the funds are available, the team will to South Africa for high performance and will depart from there to Tanzania for the competition.
