Cricket Chairman Addressing The Players

The Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association Francis Trevor Samura on Monday the 20th February paid an on the sport visit to the women’s training session at the POW School Cricket Oval in Kingtom.

The Chairman said that the visit was to get firsthand information with regards their training. He though said before his visit, the coaches had already updated him about the progress of the training but said he was there to see for himself and to boost their confidence to be more serious with their training.  He went on that they do not have much time for upcoming tournaments so he was visiting them to see their fitness and their skills and their readiness for the Nigeria Women’s invite T20 tournament in March 2023. He assured the women that by God’s grace they will travel to Nigeria to take part in the above tournament. He went on that apart from what the coaches had said for the little time he has been with the team he believed they were up to task and ready to fly the Sierra Leone flag high. The Chairman though said to take part in the international tournament they will be engaging the government to see how they will get fund from them to enable them give allowances, buy air tickets and other expenditure needed. He went on that in 2023 alone they have seven international tournaments in which he said the senior women’s team have 3 tournaments namely Lagos T20 in Match, Botswana in August and in South Africa World Cup qualifying, September 2023. The U-19 Men’s team will travel to Tanzania in July 2023. The Senior Men’s team will travel to Nigeria or Ghana in May 2023 and they will go to South Africa in September 2023 if they qualified. In all this he said they needed the support of the government to motivate the players to win more laurels for the country like they have been doing. These funds, he said they will be also using them to let the players get high performance training and prepare them mentally for the upcoming tournaments.
