Christian Aid Sierra Leone, on Tuesday 21st February 2023 updated Journalists on their work in Sierra Leone at their headquarters in Freetown.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Christian Aid, Bishop Lord Sentamu, said Christian Aid believes in life before death. He continued that Christian Aid is working in partnership with other people that have concerns about human rights, and they also give up a protective voice.
Bishop Sentamu furthered that Christian Aid is doing exactly what they stand for. He noted that Christian Aid in Sierra Leone believes in reality and maintained that they had meeting with the Inter Religious Council, where they interacted and spoke to them to talk to all Churches and Mosques between now to the day of Sierra Leone elections to encourage their members to make sure they turn up during voting day to vote. He noted that voting is one of the greatest gift that democracy gives to an individual to express their feelings to vote who they wish to be their leaders.
He maintained that Christian Aid is actually committed to empowering women in Education, Health, Business Industry, and Agriculture. He said all Sierra Leoneans in this coming election should come out in numbers to cast their vote and should not keep their voices Silence, and should speak their voices.
He said Christian Aid works beyond four partnerships in Sierra Leone. He concluded that they will be leaving to go to the provinces to see some of their work there, when they return by Friday they will update the media again about their findings.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Christian Aid, Patrick Watt, said he had meetings with the government and the British High Commission in Sierra Leone. He said him and his team went to Liberia border to see some of the work they has been doing. He also said they went to the South East to see their work. He noted that Sierra Leone has a lot of property. He said since 1988 when they started working in Sierra Leone they worked alongside with Civil Society partners. He furthered that they could create, they could learn together. He said their work in Christian Aid is trying to encourage people to use their gifts and resources responsibly to the benefit of others and not for themselves.
