Before his arrival from South Africa, the Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association Francis Trevor Samura said they are hiring the service of Kenneth Masinga not only to coach the players but to also train the local coaches.

Kenneth arrived last year in late November 2022 and took the senior team to Rwanda for the ICC/ACA Senior T20 World Cup tournament.

The team failed to qualify to the next stage but Kenneth said majority  of the cricketers  have prospect in the game which they need to work on.

The initial plan was to take the U-19 players to South Africa for high performance training but because there wasn’t enough fund with them to do so, the association decided to hire the service of Masinga to come to Sierra Leone to prepare them for their next tournament.

Whiles in Sierra Leone according to the contract agreement, the hired coach will also engage the female players and help to train the local Cricket coaches in Sierra Leone.

Kenneth returned to South Africa after the senior tournament to spend the Christmas holiday with his family. He came back to Sierra Leone few days ago to prepare the female players alongside the U-19 players.

To make his work easy, Kenneth organized a workshop on Friday for the local coaches who will be by him to train the players.

In the workshop at the SLCA Headquarter, Kingtom in Freetown Kenneth taught the local coaches the criteria to train a team.

Among the key things he mentioned were the players attitude to their fellow players, coaches, officials and the association. Another thing he said was the player’s communication with the selection panel which he said will hinder their commitment to training.

The players, he said should be selected based on team balance and respect to the form of the game including batting, bowling and leadership.

All players, he said are expected to display appropriate conduct when representing and that they should look at the players fitness (specifically in relation to injuries and on field fitness).
