Members of Parliament this past Thursday 9TH March ratified the agreement of Capitol expansion to operate in the Western Rural in Freetown.

Presenting the agreement to Members of parliament, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Haja Isata Abdulai-Kamara said that Capitol Food was established in 2014 for which they have invested over US$15m in the production of non-Alcoholic drink, water beverages and soon to be producing baby supplement.

Madam Abdulai-Kamara explained that capitol has been producing 1.5 mili liters, 25 mili liters water and 6,000 liters of food per day, promising that they are going to compete in the European market by processing Cocoa and other items.

The Deputy Chairman of Trade and Industry Hon Charles Abdulai noted that the agreement is good and not controversial.

Hon Dr. Mack Mahmoud Kalokoh said that they in the opposition are supporting the agreement because it is good for Sierra Leoneans especially the young people and the fact that the company has shown that they are concern about safety measures.

He furthered said that the agreement indicates that the company is going to engage in Cocoa productions which will create job for the local and sufficient food production required domestically.

Hon Kekura Vandy stated that government is prepared to ensure that there is convenient business environment.

Hon Alex Rogers said the agreement lacks some important document like the Environmental Impact Assessment, noting that such document should be included in the agreement.

Hon Francis Kaisamba slammed Capitol for not doing their corporate social responsibility and that even were they are operating at Hagan Road the waste take over the street.

Hon Hassan Sesay, acting Leader of Opposition explained that the private sector is creating growth for the economy but that the company must uphold corporate social responsibility in the community where they operate, and that they should provide insurance policy for employees.

The Leader of Government Business Hon Mathew Nyuma said that Capitol Food must improve on their packaging and that the baby food supplement must be a standard one.
