Leone Stars ready for another encounter

The senior male football national team Leone Stars will engage the senior national male football team of Sao Tome the Falcons and True Patriots today 22 March 2023 in doubleheader matches on Wednesday and Sunday in Agadir, Morocco.

The two matches are part of the 2023 qualification for the Total Energies AFCON competitions in Ivory Coast. In the preparation for the above two matches, the technical team of Leone Stars invited 11 home base players and 14 foreign base players. Among the 14 foreign base players one of them Rodney Michael failed to turn up due to injury.

The team delegation arrived in Morocco last Sunday 19th March and start training on Monday for the two matches. Sierra Leone is in the same group with Nigeria in first position with six points in two matches played, Guinea Bissau in second position with 4 points in two matches played, Sierra Leone in 3rd position with 1 point in 2 matches played and Sao Tome at the bottom with no point in two matches played.

Also today Nigeria will engage Guinea Bissau and they will meet again in the return leg on Sunday the same day Sao Tome will host Sierra Leone at the same venue in Agadir. Leone Stars’ road to qualification includes the must-win two matches against Sao Tome.

Before the match, the FA and the government representatives in the delegation have addressed the players that they must go all out to win the two matches against Sao Tome and Principe. After the two matches, Sierra Leone will host Nigeria and play against Guinea Bissau away.
