The United Methodist University Sierra Leone on Monday 20th March 2023 installed Professor Ekundayo Thompson as its New Vice Chancellor and Principal. Professor Thompson takes over from takes over from Professor George M Carew who retired sometime last year.
The installation ceremony which was done by the Chancellor, Bishop Warner H Brown Jr. was held at the Siaka Stevens campus Kingharman Road in Freetown. The event brought together a faculty of academics from universities and colleges throughout the country as well as students and clergymen of the United Methodist Church.
The United Methodist University (UMU) – Sierra Leone is a Private Christian University open to people of all faiths, with two campuses in Freetown. It is a faith-based institution established on the values of Excellence, Integrity, and Service. The Acting Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Commission Josephus Sawyer handed over the following instruments to the incoming VC&P during the ceremony
- The TEC Act 2001,
- The TEC Regulations 2005
- The Universities Act 2001
- The TEC Policy on affiliations
- The TEC regulations for establishment of private universities 2006
- The TEC Policy on open distance learning.
