Hon Lahai Marah of Constituency 042 Falaba district in his contribution appreciated the minister of Land for a good work.
He noted that he wants to know about the company which is TAF Africa Global Limited, pointing out that the profit sharing is good but that the government is getting 20% which according to him is small.
He said that government has provided 200 hectares of Land and he wants to know how much money this company is investing.
He also raised concern over the board which constitutes seven members and that TAF will get four members including the Chairman while government will have three members.
Hon Emilia Loloh Tongi of Constituency 001 Kailahun district said she is happy when government gets 20% while the company constructing the houses gets 80% because according to her, people don’t normally take care of government properties.
Hon Joseph Bash Kamara of Constituency 084 Bo district said that housing has been posing serious treat in the nation and that they should acknowledge the minister for bringing this agreement to parliament.
Hon Kamara expressed hope that the houses will not be like the NASSIT scheme houses which they as MPs cannot even afford not to talk about the under privileged.
Hon Aaron Akuna Koroma said the minister should have attached the economic value of the project because 200 hectares of Land is not small.
“If government is contributing about billions of Leones, it’s unfair for government to have 20% shares,” he stated.
The Acting Leader of Opposition Hon Hassan A. Sesay said the idea of having property developing company is welcoming.
Hon Sesay advised the Minister that when coming with such agreement to parliament they should give details of the entire project including the technicality but the Speaker of parliament cautioned that this is the first step of the agreement and that it is not finality.
Explaining the Lease Agreement, the Leader of Government Business Hon Mathew Nyuma said that they are going to have schools, roads, houses.
The Minister of Land Housing and planning Dr. Turad Senessie explained that it is Joint agreement between the government of Sierra Leone represented by the Ministry of Land and TAF Africa Global Limited.
“If the government succeeds in having these houses, it would avoid the housing deficit in Sierra Leone. The ministry has done its own part and in the place where they are going to construct the houses, they will also provide schools, Police Station and the necessary facilities for social service,” the minister maintained.
