China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo underway

On March 28th, the Promotion Conference for the 3rd China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) & the 2023 Qiandao Lake Entrepreneurs Convention[M1]  was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Chen Huaming, Deputy Director General of the Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), addressed the conference. Qiu Xiaoping, Deputy Secretary General of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), also attended this event. The promotion conference was moderated by Bai Xiaofeng, a member of the expert group on China-Africa economic cooperation of MOFCOM and Secretary General of the China-Africa Business Council (CABC). Mao Qixing, Inspector (Level Ⅰ) of the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province, gave a detailed introduction of the 3rd Expo at the conference. Zhou Yiwei, General Manager of Beijing Capital Group Exhibitions & Events, introduced the exhibition and market development of the Expo. Li Shun, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Changsha Committee and Director of the Changsha Exhibition Management Office, introduced the China-Africa Cities Forum (Changsha). Yi Jing, Vice Chief of the People’s Government of Yuhua District, presented the sub-exhibition venue of the 3rd CAETE — China-Africa Economic and Trade Innovation Park. Nearly 200 participants attended the event, including representatives from the Trade Development Bureau of MOFCOM, CABC, Hunan Chamber of Commerce in Zhejiang, the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province, People’s Government of Changsha City and People’s Government of Yuhua District, enterprises, Chambers of Commerce, business associations, and exhibition companies in Hangzhou, Jinhua, and Yiwu, as well as journalists.

The 3rd CAETE, on the theme of “Common Development for a Shared Future”, is about to kick off in Changsha, Hunan from June 29 to July 2, 2023. The main event venue and exhibition venue are located at Changsha International Conference Center and Changsha International Convention and Exhibition Center respectively; the sub-venue of the exhibition is located at the China-Africa Economic and Trade Innovation Park (Hunan Gaoqiao Grand Market). The 3rd Expo will feature eight African countries of honor and two theme provinces (i.e., Shandong and Hubei). It will organize about 30 events in six categories, including major events, high-level forums, high-level seminars, business matchmaking, thematic seminars, and side events. Covering an area of about 91,000 km2, the main exhibition venue will showcase the highlights of China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, countries of honor, theme provinces, central SOEs, Chinese provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions), African high-quality specialty products, and Africa-facing Chinese products, industries, and services. The sub-venue of the exhibition will mainly use the CAETE permanent exhibition pavilion. The 3rd CAETE will solicit cooperation projects from China and Africa, continue to share experiences, release the China-Africa Trade Index for the first time, and issue a new version of the Report on China-Africa Economic and Trade Relations.

Chen Huaming said that with the joint efforts of China and Africa, the Expo has been held for two sessions, achieved remarkable results, and established a pragmatic, efficient, mutually beneficial, and win-win brand image. The Expo is an important initiative for China to deepen its economic and trade cooperation with Africa. We welcome all sectors in China and Africa to participate in the 3rd session and promote the high-quality development of China-Africa economic and trade cooperation and build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.

Mao Qixing introduced that the 3rd session will innovate and launch practical measures, create distinctive features, and make the Expo enriching, exquisite, effective, and exceptional with a wide reach. We welcome you all to meet in Hunan in the upcoming June to renew the friendship and engage in cooperation for common development.

As the host city of CAETE, Changsha will organize the China-Africa Cities Forum as a side event to feature Changsha’s unique appeal, elements, and wisdom. Themed “Deepening China-Africa Cooperation for a Bright Future”, the first forum will showcase practical cooperation, multiple participation, sustained development, and shared benefits.

As the permanent exhibition pavilion of the Expo, China-Africa Economic and Trade Innovation Park (Hunan Gaoqiao Grand Market) aims to build an African Non-Resource Products Distribution and Trade Center, a China-Africa E-commerce Livestreaming Incubator, and a China-Africa SME Incubation Center. In 2022, it achieved a total of 14.3 billion yuan in import and export.
