SLCA hired international coach Kenneth Masinga will today work with the local coaches to engage three national teams players in fitness training at the POW School Ovals in Kingtom, Freetown.

The three teams are the Senior Men’s national Cricket team (The Patriot), Senior Women’s Cricket team (Female Patriot) and the U-19 Men’s national team. Among the three national teams the Senior Men’s team is presently preparing to take part in the ACA Africa Regional T20 qualifier in Abuja Nigeria. The tournament is scheduled to start on the 21st – 30th June 2028 according to Coach Masinga.

In the above tournament Sierra Leone is in group A with the host country Nigeria and Cameroon while in the group B are Ghana, Gambia and Mali. According to the fixtures two teams will qualify from each group for the semi-final stage. The teams in 1st and 2nd from each group will battle in the semi-final stage. The first from group A will take on the second in group B and the next semi-final match will be the first from group B facing the second from group A. The four teams according to Coach Kenneth will battle to get three teams to represent the West Africa region in ACA Africa T20 Tournament that will be hosted in South Africa in September this year. The three teams from West Africa will battle with the representatives from the East and the South Africa regions.

In July the U-19 will travel to Tanzania to take part in the U-19 World Cup qualifier. The female team will travel to Botswana this year and then to South Africa for the Senior Women’s World Cup qualifier. Coach Kenneth said they are well advanced with the training of the three teams and on Friday today they will be doing fitness training with all three teams involve. On Saturday he said it will be training for the beginners in which school pupils from the various schools will involve at the POW school Ovals. Some of the local coaches have been training the pupils in some of these schools in Freetown and tomorrow they will be at the POW Ovals to train at the field. On Wednesday Coach Kenneth trained the senior Men’s catches and how to bat low straight to find the boundaries.
