Sierra Leone’s only football stadium situated in Freetown was last year banned by CAF not to host any CAF or FIFA organized competitions. This lead Sierra Leone to play all their International class A home matches away. To solve the problem the President Bio led government disbursed money and hired a Chinese construction company GCIGC to repair the stadium including the hostel and all the other facilities within the stadium. The Chinese company told the government that they will finish the repairs in two years’ time. While the work is going the Sports Minister takes the media regularly to tour the construction work and inform the people on how far the repairs have gone. Last Friday was the 3rd time the journalists toured the stadium to see how far the work have gone. In addressing the media the contractor Wan Bao Xin told the media that they still maintain the two-year time and that the stadium will be ready for use in May 2024. He went on that the stadium will be with modernized facilities and it will be one of the best in Africa. The stadium this time will have two ground floor stands for the disable fans, four dressing rooms two for local matches and two for international matches. There will also be a media room for the media with electronic gadgets apart from the commentary booths to enable them do their work well. The Sports Minister Ibrahim Nyelenkeh told the media that whenever Leone Stars is playing home matches away the questions of when will the stadium will be available will arise among the fans. That was all the more reason why he has decided to take the media to tour the stadium regularly and report accordingly.
