In a bid to promote peace before and after the just concluded June24th 2023 Multi-tier Elections, the National Council for Civic Education and Democracy in collaboration with the Political Parties Regulatory Commission (PPRC) last Thursday 23rd June conducted a successful Peace March, Float Parade and Edutainment event.
The March started on both the east and west end of the capital city. NaCCED and PPRC Peace March was attended by various young people from different facets of life, who converged from Shell to Cotton Tree and from Lumley to Cotton Tree where the Artistes for Peace headed by CJ Mark and other popular musicians performed songs of peace massages.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman for the PPRC Abdulia Bangura (ESQ) noted that PPRC collaborated with NaCCED to ensure that peace massage is well preached during and after the elections.
Mr. Bangura went on to note that the commission is committed to making sure that political parties go by the dictates of the rule of law, noting that a peaceful election is what the country needs. The PRRC Chair ended by calling on young people who attended the Peace March to stay away from violence and conduct them in a “Saful Manner” during and after the elections.
Making his key statements on behalf of the Artistes for Peace, the President of the organization CJ Mark said the peace March was a very important event and expressed his appreciation to the young people who attended the Peace March. He noted that the presence of young people in the Peace March shows the interest they have in maintaining the country’s peace. He concluded by sending his profound gratitude to NaCCED and PPRC for the bold step by bringing together the youths and for preparing them for peace before and after elections.
The Chairman, National Council for Civil Education and Democracy, Kalilu Totangay told journalists that the progress of Sierra Leone lies on the shoulder of the youths. Thus, the massage of peace should always be re-echoed to them especially during and after the elections.
He said that is NaCCED collaborated with PPRC to bring out over one thousand youths, most of those who are associated with cliques across the capital city to send a clear message that the youths stands for peace.
He also concluded by assuring the press that most of those young people who attended the Peace March has committed themselves to peace long before the elections.
