Parliament has approved four presidential nominees. They are Mohamed Orman Bangura Minister of Youths Affairs, Francess Pagey Alghali Deputy of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Rtd Col. Alhaji Fanday Turay Minister of Transport and Aviation and Dr. Michael Imran Kanu Deputy Representative to the United Nations.

The Deputy Leader of Government Business 2 Hon Emerson Lamina in his submission said the presidential nominees have a role to play in the executive. He made this statement on Tuesday August 8th 2023 while approving four presidential nominees. He stated that Mohamed Orman Bangura serving the Youths for the second time has constructed twenty eight car wash centers and 189 youth’s farm in the country. He informed the minister that youths are dying of Kush and called on him that when he takes up office to develop a Kush bring policy and take to parliament in order to eradicate this menace. Adding to the plea, Hon Ibrahim Kabba Western Area Rural said our youths are dying of Kush and also called on the minister of youths affairs to stand strong to eradicate it.

The Leader of government Business 2 called on Mrs. Algahli who was the nominee as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sierra Leone to sell Sierra Leone to the International market like she did at Njala University where she introduced new courses.  “When this woman was a registrar at Njala University she organized quiz and debate competitions in which I took part and won and ultimately gained a scholarship at the college”, Hon. Lamina said. Addressing the Ambassador Fanday Turay as Minister of Transport and Aviation he pointed out   that they in the eastern region are challenged in terms of transportation and that the minister should boost the transport sector such as Land, Sea and Air. He also called on him to negotiate cost of ticket and put his Curriculum Vitae in to action.

Hon Hindolo Gevao of Kailahun district in his contribution said Dr. Michael Imran Kanu, nominee as deputy permanent representative to the United Nations is a member of the Bar Association and a forthright man who believes in unity.   

Hon Tamba Simeon Johnny of Kono district said Fanday Turay is being sent to a ministry that is challenged. He lamented that it is not good for a country to produce bad Leader like late Siaka Stevens who claimed that the railway was unnecessary but advised the minister of transport and aviation to introduce locomotive trains. He said that he was aware of the urban resilient transport for fifty buses that are underway and pleaded for Kono to be catered for.

Hon Johnny also asked Mr. Bangura to involve Youths in fishing. She also referred to  Mrs. Algahli as a mother who negotiated for students at Njala University. Hon Rtd Capt. Slyvester Arnold Boima from Moyamba District said section 13 of the constitution mandates the nominees to work in the interest of the country. He said Mohamed Orman Bangura has established fish a pond at his constituency which is doing well.

Hon Mohamed Bangura of Karene district in his contribution said after 50 years Sierra Leone has finally got a seat as permanent representative at United Nations which has made the country proud.
