The Sierra Leone Consul-General in the Office of the Consulate of Sierra Leone in Miami, Honorable George Hamilton, has led a high powered business delegation to Sierra Leone as part of his drive in promoting His Excellency President Julius Mada Bio’s Business and Investment initiatives.
The high-powered delegation visit which comprises of State officials from Miami-Dade County and business moguls came at a time when Sierra Leoneans have given another mandate to His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio to continue his transformative agenda of the country through investment and human capital development.
Through his diplomatic approach with State officials in Miami, Hon. George Hamilton was able to showcase Sierra Leone’s business potential to government officials, business personalities and key stakeholders in the Miami-Dade County.
Some of the personalities in the delegation include the Honorable Kionne L. McGhee, Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 9 who was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2012 for Florida House District 117, and served as the Minority Leader from 2018 to 2020 before being elected as Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 9 in November 2020.
The Honorable Marleine Bastien, District 2 Commissioner in Miami-Dade County, who is known for her tireless advocacy for equity, economic empowerment, comprehensive immigration reform, and climate justice, championing the rights for women, children, families, workers, the elderly, and LGBTQ worldwide.
The Honorable Alix Desulme, Mayor of the City of North Miami, Florida. The Honorable Scott Galvin, Councilman in the City of North Miami.
Honorable Mario Bustamante, the first Mexican American to serve as a Commissioner for the City of North Lauderdale.
During the just concluded Business Development and Cultural exchange summit which was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, government officials from Ministries Departments and Agencies were opportune to discuss possible areas of mutual benefits and investments in both countries.
Members of the delegation further engaged the management of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority and discussed possible collaboration between the Port of Miami and that of Sierra Leone.
Similar engagements were done with the Sierra Leone Investment end Export Promotion Agency, the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Education where they discussed untapped investment areas in mining, agriculture, energy and lots more.
Consul-General George Hamilton was commended by Ministers and other heads of department for creating such business and investment opportunities in Sierra Leone by showcasing the country’s investment potentials within the Miami Dade County and Florida.
Government officials are now hopeful that the outcome of such a timely business and investment summit will further lead to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding among the various companies and MDAs that will lead to job creation and other opportunities worth exploring.
