Campaign for Good Governance (CGG) last week Thursday held a one-day workshop for journalists to recap: enhancing media understanding of Women, Peace and Security (WPS).

The training which was held at the Family Kingdom, Aberdeen Beach Road in Freetown is to deepen the understanding of journalist on WPS Resolutions and the Sierra Leone Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act. 

The aim is to bring together diverse group of participants eager to expand their knowledge and expertise in these crucial areas.

One of the facilitators, Bernadette French (Mrs.) also Director of Programmes, provided invaluable guidance and leadership throughout the workshop, setting the tone for engaging discussions and meaningful learning experiences.

CGG Executive Director, Marcella Samba-Sesay brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table, offering perspectives on the intersection of Gender, Peace, and Security within the Sierra Leonean context.

Director of Gender, Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Charles Vandy shared insights from the Ministry’s perspective and also highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment through policy initiatives such as the GEWE Act.

Lolo Yeama Sarah Thompson-Oguamah, The National Expert, Chief Executive and Founder, Initiative for Media Development (IMDev) explained a unique perspective, drawing from her experiences in her current role as Chief Executive of IMDev. 

She said her expertise in media development and access to information added depth to the discussions on promoting gender-sensitive reporting.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for journalists and media practitioners to deepen their understanding of the WPS Resolutions and the GEWE Act, equipping the participants with the knowledge and skills needed to promote gender-sensitive reporting and contribute to sustainable peace and development in Sierra Leone.
