Few days ago, the Executive Director of NSA Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai in a Press Briefing on his 100 days in office told the media that Government will start to give subvention to NOC every year.
He reechoed his pronouncement for the subvention in a board meeting recently. The NOC President, Prince Vandy Swaray has commended the president for his plan to give out subvention to NOCSLE.
According to him, the subvention will help to develop sports in the country. This, he said has always been their cry to the government. He went on that he is not surprise to hear about it now of which he also commends the new Executive Director whom he said pushed for it.
NOC, he said get little amount from IOC which they will use to pay salaries, office rent, to buy office equipment and many other expenditures.
Sometimes it is this money they will use to give to associations as motivation for the athletes during international and local competitions.
With all this, he said the little they receive from IOC is not enough. The other funds they receive are money from the Olympic Solidarity fund to give them to associations whose project has been approved by the above solidarity.
Prince went on that several associations have on several occasion missed out to take part in their qualifying competitions both for the Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games or even the world championship qualifiers due to lack of funds.
Prince said the subvention from government will go a long way to develop sports in any country. A typical example,she said are countries like Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria and several others who receive subvention from their government every year.
