The International Cricket Council (ICC) has awarded Alie John Kamara, current Head Coach of the National Senior Men’s Cricket Team, for his outstanding dedication and commitment in the development of Cricket in Sierra Leone.

Alie John Kamara was awarded the long service Award on Friday on the opening day of the ICC Annual Conference in Colombo.

This marked the second time a Sierra Leonean has received such award in the last three years. The first one was awarded to Sidney Benka-Coker, former Secretary General of Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL). 

Alie John Kamara, who is also an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the recognition means a lot to him.

 “I feel so proud because my hard work has finally paid off,” said Alie, thanking God for the achievement and wishing the same for the others in Cricket.

The Board and Management also congratulated ASP Kamara for winning such a historic and prestigious ICC long service award.

“This goes to show that hard work and dedication pay. Our thanks and appreciation to the Sierra Leone Police for allowing ASP Alie John Kamara to provide such an invaluable role in the development of Sierra Leone Cricket without which such remarkable achievement would not have been possible,” CSL’s Board Chairman, Francis Trevor Samura, wrote.

Coach Alie Kamara was a complete all-rounder during his playing days. During his active playing days, he was a wicketkeeper, batsman and a bowler. He played for his played for the Police Cricket Club and the senior national team. In his coaching career, he won gold with the U-17 Male team in Nigeria, he won bronze medal with the U-19 Men’s national team the World Cup division 2 qualifier in Abuja- Nigeria.
