The Sierra Leone Paralympic team has commenced their training camp in Masiaka in preparation for the 2024 France Paralympic Games, which will take place from August 28 to September 8, 2024. The training camp was officially opened on Sunday at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School in Masiaka. George Wyndham, representing Sierra Leone in the Para F56 Javelin event, led the training session. Previously, Wyndham competed internationally in wheelchair table tennis.
The opening ceremony featured prominent figures including Dr. Abdul Rhaman Swaray, Deputy Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), and Steven Kelfala, NSA’s Director of Sustainable Sports. Dr. Swaray expressed his satisfaction with the camp and assured the team of the government’s unwavering support for Paralympic sports. Steven Kelfala emphasized the importance of preparation and pledged to highlight the team’s activities in his end-of-year report.
Paralympic Sports Team Leader, Unisa Deen Kargbo, explained that the athletes were brought to an isolated location to minimize distractions and maximize focus. He assured the government of the athletes’ mental readiness and highlighted the need for funding to motivate the team. Representing the athletes, George Wyndham promised to give his best performance and stressed that disability does not equate to inability. He expressed confidence in the team’s potential to make Sierra Leone proud in France.
