On Thursday, August 9th, the Sierra Leone House of Parliament unanimously approved Ing. Andrew Keili as the Chairman of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).

The Leader of Government Business, Mathew Nyuma, introduced Ing. Andrew Keili to the Speaker of Parliament and the rest of the honorable members, presenting a detailed profile of Keili’s contributions to Sierra Leone’s transformation and his significant role in the energy sector over the years.

Following his approval, Ing. Andrew Keili emphasized the critical need to transform the electricity sector, acknowledging that EDSA is currently not in good shape. He highlighted the necessity of implementing reforms and improving EDSA’s status. Ing. Andrew Keili stressed that the government should provide policy guidelines while the board focuses on administrative, fiduciary, and corporate governance oversight of EDSA.

He noted his extensive experience in the electricity sector, including consultancy work on the recent MCC project and energy policy for Sierra Leone.

Members of Parliament praised Keili’s achievements and congratulated him on his new role. Honorable Leader of the Opposition, Abdul Kargbo, also drew the attention of the House that Ing. Keili is a prolific writer and has catured the reading public with his coloumn, Ponder My Thoughts. He expressed hope that Keili would continue writing his impactful column. Ing. Keili assured that his new role as Board Chairman would not hinder his ability to continue writing his column, “Ponder My Thoughts.”

Ing. Andrew Keili had previously faced the Committee on Appointments at Parliament Building on Tower Hill in Freetown on Monday, August 5th.

In addition to Keili, the following individuals were also approved:

– Broadcaster Asmaa James as Deputy Ambassador to Belgium/Brussels

– Ibrahim Turay as Ambassador to the Sierra Leone Embassy in Dakar, Senegal

– Luseni Kallon as Deputy Ambassador to Sierra Leone in Monrovia, Liberia

– Fatmata Sawaneh as Deputy Ambassador to Sierra Leone in Conakry, Guinea

– Kabineh Kallon as Chairman of the National Revenue Authority

– Edward Lebbie Williams as Chairman of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority

– Catherine Patricia Francess Turay as Commissioner for the Southern Region Tertiary Education Commission

– Rev. Thomas Barnett as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation
