The President of the National Olympic Committee in Sierra Leone Prince Vandy Sualley on behalf of the NOC executive have join thousands of Sierra Leoneans to send a congratulatory message to the U-19 Cricket team for their brilliant performance in Tanzania.
Prince went on that he was happy when he received the news that Sierra Leone has qualified to the next stage of the U-19 W/C qualifier, calling on the players to push hard and win the gold for Sierra Leone
Prince described their performance as a build up for the upcoming All Africa Games and the 2028 Olympic Games in USA.
Before 2028, he said most of the young players will be matured to represent Sierra Leone in the two Games. He called on the Cricket board and the executive to guide the young players and give them the appropriate training ahead of their next tournament.
Prince said that the spirit that the young players have will take Sierra Leone to Sri Lanka for the U-19 World Cup in 2026. The NOC executive were in France for the Olympic Games when the team departs to Tanzania but Prince has assured them that they will welcome them when they returned with their medals and trophies at the NOC Headquarters in Freetown.
He has also assured them that the NOC executive will do their own little best to help the team get advance training before their next tournament.
Meanwhile, the Cricket Board Chairman has appealed to the government and business houses to help them send the team out for advanced training before their next competition.
He went on that the players needs more commendation because they trained on hard ground but play and beat countries with facilities like turf and gras field and still beat them, pointing out that it is a big effort and sacrifice.
