FREETOWN – Few weeks ago, Sierra Leone Football Association presented a list of local coaches they have appointed for male and female national teams.

Among them, were coaches for senior male and female teams, U-20 for both male and female, U-17 male and female team and for the U-15 Boys.

The coaches were unveiled at the Siaka Steven Stadium Atlantic Hall in Freetown. In his statement, the Sports Minister Ibrahim Nyelenkeh told the coaches that they were going to sign a performance contract, noting that they will fire any coach that fails to perform.

He went on that as national team coach, one should have qualities such as discipline, integrity, confidence and courage.

In the case of discipline, he said a coach should be discipline before he or she can discipline his players.

That with integrity they should not compromise in any way to get results out of the performance on the field either by bribery or match fixing.

Lastly, he said a coach should have courage and confidence in the players they are dealing with.

To help them get all the above qualities, the FA has taken them to a lecture room for a two days symposium and induction at the Atlantic Hotel, Lumley Beach in Freetown.

At the symposium the FA hired speakers like the BBC reporter Umaru Fofanah, Dourosimi Thomas former BBC reporter, Sam Obi Metzger former Leone Stars coach and former SLFA Technical Director, Freeman for security and refereeing.

Among them, the two journalists Umaru and Thomas will lecture them on how they should react to journalists during interviews.

Obi Metzger will lecture them on how a coach should be with a team and how to deal with players in and out of the field of play.

Freeman a retired referee, who has engaged in a course on security management, will talk on how to maintain security during and after competitions.

The coaches will be also lectured on how they should react to match officials during and after matches. The two days symposium will end today.
