Leone Stars on Tuesday defeated the giants of Africa, the AFCON defending champions Elephants of Ivory Coast in Monrovia, Liberia. Before the above match Sierra Leone lost to Ivory Coast 4-1 in San Pedro and drop to drop to the bottom if the table. The victory in Liberia returned Sierra Leone to the 3rd position in the group with 4 points in four matches played. Leone Stars drew their first match in the AFCON qualifier and lost to Zambia 3-2 in Zambia. Despite the loss to Leone Stars the defending champions are still leading the group with 9 points in 4 matches followed by Zambia in second with 7 points in 4 matches played at the bottom of the league table is Chad with 2 points in 4 matches played. All four countries now have two more matches each to play home and away. Sierra Leone’s next match will be against Chad in Cameroun and they will host Zambia in Liberia all in November. According to analysts Sierra Leone need to win all two matches home and away. The six points will enable Sierra Leone to qualify if the Ivoirians defeat Zambia or if Zambia drop points in their last two matches against Ivory Coast at home and against Sierra Leone away. According to source plans are now on the way to travel with thousands of fans to Liberia in the last match against Zambia.
