Members of Parliament has ratified US$ 30 million grant for development programme between the Republic of Sierra Leone and International fund for Agriculture and development the purpose and description of the project is for the livelihood and livestock development programme is more of donor funded project is about US$ 90 M the government of Sierra Leone contribution in kind amounting to 18.8 m to enhance the livelihood to household in Sierra Leone in to three interconnected components.
The Deputy Minister of Finance 1Kadijatu Alie has said that the first component is a small holder livestock productions and productivity to increase income generation and nutrition through enhance livestock productivity second is the micro and small livestock enterprise creating and establishing company and the livestock sector, component 3 is the Institution support and project coordination through the institutional capacity and recurrent and respective management project. Madam Alie went on to say that the strategic reference is this project is aline with the government of Sierra Leone commitment.
According to her, to reducing poverty and improving food security and creating job opportunity for rural women in farming these effort is to support the feed salone initiative the medium term national development plans 2024, 2030 which aims to boast the country agriculture and livestock sector for sustainable growth, the project is expected to delivered more benefit and the development for Sierra Leone through the support small holder and livestock farmers approximately 60,000 small holders farmers will benefit through productivity and access to better breeds income and activities.
The Chairman Finance Committee Hon Francis Kaisamba in his contribution said is a laudable venture to bring development to this country in agriculture they need value change effort like this sign agreement for livestock is a good one this amount to boast agriculture US$ 3O M is a urge development so he thanks the minister for bringing the agreement in parliament. Hon Kaisamba said Climate change is a globally issued as Sierra Leone is a member of the global communities so the Ministry of Finance can sign agreement to address climate change this is given for and behalf of the people of this country all the ask for is to ensure that these monies is used for the intended purpose there are areas of job creations we have lot of qualified young people.
