FREETOWN, March 15, (232News) – In line with their vision and mission, A Place Of Hops Ministries (APOHM) USA-Sierra Leone continued it feeding campaign by targeting hundreds of children at the Big Wharf Community in Freetown.
The campaign title Jesus Cares Campaign is meant to bring hope, strength and courage rising to greater good of children and mothers.
The founder of A Place of Hope (APOHM) Pastor Henrietta Jones said it was born out of the need to reach out to their fellow citizens to provide nutritious meals to children during the Covid-19 pandemic.
She continued to say APOHM is a non-profit organisation that provides weekly nutritious meals to children and baby food to infants aged 6 to12 months in underprivileged communities to help with their developmental growth and eradicate hunger.
Pastor Jones disclosed that APOHM also provides scholarships to school age children in Freetown. Currently, APOHM has fed over 10000 kids and infants since April of 2020 in 25 locations in Freetown.
She said APOHM continues to feed their children and infants weekly, and is currently reaching out to other locations in Freetown.
He disclosed further that plans to extend into other regions are in the works and they are dedicated to continuing to provide meals to their children who are their future Teachers, Lawyers, President, Judges, Politicians, Secretaries, Bank personnels, Mothers, Fathers, Doctors, Engineers, Mayors , Counselor, and so on.
APOHM Supervisor, Unisa Kargbo and team interacted with the kids and share jokes with them.
Unisa described their work as a way of reaching out to the needy. He said there is need for one to give hope and encourage the future generation of better days.
Big Wharf Community Chief Yabom Posseh Roy the Second expressed joy and appreciation to APOHM for reaching out to them.
She said her community is forgetting but the move taken by APOHM gave them hope to say all is not lost.
“I am full of joy for this day; this is a direct benefit to my people. We are grateful to APOHM and team.”
The children at Big Wharf among others areas did not only eat, they were given the chance to interact with their friends and share fun.
The children were excited to converge in the Chief’s compound after a very long time due to the government restriction.
UNICEF said, nearly half a million of children under-five are stunted while 30,000 are suffering from malnutrition and are at immediate risk of death due to inadequate dietary intake and high disease burden affecting young children in Sierra Leone.
