The Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) has received the voting materials from a cargo from South Africa at the Lungi International Airport.

The voting materials were received yesterday Monday 19 June after it was expected on Saturday 17 June but were delayed by 24 hrs.

The ballot papers were printed in South Africa by the same company that printed the 2012 and 2018 ballot papers- REFORM.

The voting materials were received in the presence of both international and local observers as well as political party representatives and the media.

Director of Operations ECSL, Mohamed Turay said that after sorting out the materials based on the elections and districts, they will be taken to the district offices of ECSL and that they will be protected by joint security personnel of the Sierra Leone Police and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.

He revealed that plans for Saturday polls continue unhindered and that the elections will be held peacefully.

Before now, the main opposition All People Congress (APC) had given 72hr ultimatum to the Chief Electoral Commissioner and all other Commissioners to resign but the Chief Electoral Commissioner Mohamed K Konneh has emphatically said that they will not resign.

It is now 144hrs since the APC Ultimatum to the Electoral Commissioners expires.

The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) held a dialogue with APC, ECSL, Office of National Security (ONS) and the Sierra Leone Police following a leaked letter of the APC to the Police, notifying them of what they called peaceful protest.
