Saturday 24th June is the D Day for Sierra Leoneans to make a decision that will make or mar the nation. While the opposition APC continues to espy the process, the ruling SLPP goes to the polls in high hopes that there will be no run off. Each party banks on their so called strongholds for their maximum support. The SLPP goes to the poll seeking another five years while the APC seeks a revenge after given a bloody nose five years ago Traditionally, the SLPP runs away with the southeast while the APC keeps the northwest close to their chests. Both northeast and southeast carry almost equal percentage of voters. Up for grabs are pockets of either regions. But for the elections of 2002 and 2012 there had been runoffs leading to winner takes all. With the introduction of the PR system, we may see a new twist in this year’s election.
