(Source- SALONE TIMES) –  The four days beach cleaning process organized by the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA-SL) ended on Sunday with sports jamboree and tree planting at the beach sports complex at Aberdeen. The above program started on the 9th March 2023 at the Lumley Atlantic beach and ended at the Lumley beach in Freetown. The code name of the program was ‘Commonwealth Games Changer’ given by the Commonwealth Games for all Commonwealth members to celebrate the Commonwealth day.

According to the president Prince Vandy Sualley, the Commonwealth Games Association in Sierra Leone agreed to celebrate the program with the cleaning of the beach. The beach he said is where most of the sports train and do their activities. Besides, he said it was also a way to stop the inflow of plastic particles into the sea which is the most dangerous garbage that kills the species in the sea. The cleaning process was launched by the Minister of Environment and Climate Professor Foday Jaward after speeches by several speakers at the program. Apart from the Commonwealth Games the program was also sponsored by the Orange Mobile Company in Sierra Leone and the Rokel Commercial Bank in Sierra Leone partners with Freetown City Council, Republic of Sierra Leone Arm Forces, National Fire Force, National Sports Authority, Commonwealth Sports and several others. The program ended with sports jamboree with the display of Karate Federation, Judo, Taekwondo, Wrestling, Single Leg Football, Gymnastic and Beach Volleyball.

At the end of the program certificates of appreciation were giving to the participating sports and the partners. The end of the program was also climax with the planting of trees by the various sports personalities and the representatives of the two local sponsors Orange and Rokel Commercial Bank. The CGA President Prince Sualley commended the two sponsors whom he said came in because environment cleaning has always been part of their yearly activities. The coordinator of the program Ahmed Khanu who chaired the activities said the planting of the trees at the beach sports complex was to protect the complex from climate change.
